Injuries have been ranked as the second leading cause of death in the United Arab Emirates. Road traffic crash deaths accounted for 70.5% of all injury related deaths in 2003. Trauma and fatality rates are higher in the UAE compared to countries with comparable vehicle ownership. In 2007 the UAE reported 1,056 fatalities and 11,155 road traffic crashes. In 2010, 826 fatalities were reported with 7,644 road traffic crashes. Traumatic brain injury represents a significant burden on the UAE.
