Some of the world’s highest injury mortality rates are found in some Asian countries, the rate in Sri Lanka is 26% of all cause mortality. The trend for RTC in Sri Lanka has been increasing since 1975. Between 1975 and 1998 there has been an 84.5% increase in road traffic fatality rates (deaths per 10,000 population).Road fatality numbers have continued to increase since then. In 1980, deaths from RTCs stood at 7.5 per 100,000 population to 11.6 in the year 2000, an increase of 55% between these dates.
